  Chapter Twenty-One

  Cherilyn woke to the unmistakable sounds and smells of a hospital room. She blinked a few times. Whatever had been stinging her eyes was gone, and the air no longer burned her lungs, but everything hurt. She glanced around and was afraid to believe what she was seeing.

  Thayer and Evan were standing right outside her door, talking to Sean, Chad, Dean, and a stern-looking man she didn’t recognize. It hadn’t been a dream. They were here, and she was free from Jay Nichols.

  Thayer turned, and when he saw that she was awake, his eyes filled with the most powerful emotion she’d ever seen. It nearly took her breath away. She blinked back fresh tears at the sight of it.

  “She’s awake.” He and Evan crowded into the small room. The stern-looking man tried to push past them, but Sean caught him by the shoulder and pulled him out. With a quick smile at her, he closed the door. She made a mental note to thank him later.

  Evan looked like he’d been crying. The tenderness in his face nearly burst her heart. She tried to put her hand to her mouth and stared at the bandage on her arm. That had been where Jay had cut her with the knife. “What happened?” Her voice came out raspy, and she began to cough.

  “Don’t try to talk,” said Evan, holding a plastic cup and straw to her lips. “They shot tear gas into the house because a tornado was spotted and Dean decided he didn’t want to dick around waiting for Nichols to give up.”

  Tear gas? That explained the burning in her lungs and eyes. But another tornado? Had Racy been hit again? She mouthed, “What happened?”

  Thayer perched on the edge of the bed and gave her a brilliant smile. “Short story or long one?”

  “Long,” she croaked. Apparently she wouldn’t be able to say too much for a while, but she had a million questions.

  “The man who hit your car was Jay Nichols. He’s been watching you for a while. He had Chuck’s tie to prove to you that he knew him, just in case. Apparently he’s been tracking down all the spouses or close family members of men he served with, trying to get revenge for whoever turned him in to the army. You were the last one.”

  Evan stroked her hair, and she closed her eyes for a second. She had believed she was going to die and would never feel his touch again. “Cherilyn, I hate to tell you this, but if we don’t, you’ll hear it anyway. He killed the others. The ones he tracked down.”

  She nodded. She’d known he was going to kill her eventually. “Tornado?”

  Evan shook his head. “Racy wasn’t hit. It didn’t touch down near here.”

  She let out the breath she’d been holding. “Thank God. Who is that other man? The one who was scowling and tried to get in here?

  Evan chuckled. “JAG from Indy. Ignore him. Dean’s already put him in his place.”

  “My car?”

  “I’m sorry,” said Thayer. “It’s pretty trashed. We do have one question though, before I forget to ask. How did you hide your phone from him?”

  “Where is it?” Her voice was coming easier now.

  “The police have it.”

  “I put it in my pocket when my car rolled and he broke my driver’s side window. It was on vibrate.”

  Thayer and Evan exchanged a glance as Evan nodded. “That’s why Nichols never heard it ring when I called you.”

  She sighed. If she hadn’t put it on vibrate at the bar, they might never have found her. “That’s how you found me, right? The phone.”

  “Cherilyn, we would have found you.” Evan stared at her intently. “We would have found you no matter what.”

  “I have to tell you something.” She struggled to sit up, but she was in too much pain.

  “Don’t try to do that,” said Thayer. “Your left shoulder and hip are badly sprained, and you have cuts everywhere from the glass.”

  She held up her arm. “This isn’t from the glass. He cut me with his knife. But that’s not what I want to tell you. He said things. Things that aren’t true. He called me a slut. I’m not. I…you two mean the world to me. That’s not what this is.”

  “Cherilyn, we know that,” said Evan.

  “And he said I was a traitor to Chuck’s memory. But that’s not true, is it? I haven’t betrayed his memory.”

  Evan stroked her hair again. “No, that’s not true. You’ve done nothing wrong. Cherilyn, you…” He cut his gaze quickly to Thayer, and then touched her face. “You’re our whole world. I love you. I should have told you that, but I was stupid. Never again. You’re going to hear it every day, a million times a day if that’s what you want.”

  Tears ran down her cheeks, stinging her cuts, but she didn’t care. She could hardly believe what she was hearing was true. “Evan, I love you, too. And I love you, too, Thayer. I love you both. I know this is crazy, but I don’t care.”

  Thayer squeezed her right arm. “Cherilyn, it’s not crazy. It’s wonderful. I love you, too. We…we want you with us forever. Not only as our sub. As our best friend, our lover, and the most perfect woman on the planet. I should have told you, too. And then when we thought we’d lost you…”

  He was clearly as choked up as she was. She couldn’t stop trembling. “I thought I was going to die. I thought I’d never see you two again or be able to tell you that I love you.”

  “We thought the same thing,” said Thayer. “Stay with us forever. We don’t ever want to lose you.”

  “Cherilyn, you mean everything to us. I’ll move in with you and Thayer. We want you with us both, for the rest of our lives. We want to share you as a sub, but not only that. We want to share the rest of your life. Please say ‘yes.’”

  “Yes,” she whispered. “Yes, yes. Yes.” They touched her face, her arms, and stroked her hair. They kissed her gently on the lips, and gazed into her eyes with love.

  “We’ll make it official,” said Thayer. “With a big party and everything.”

  “Whatever you two want.”

  “But that’s important, love,” said Evan. “You have to want it, too.”

  “I do want it. I want to be with both of you. I want you both to be my Doms and my lovers.”

  “Will you wear a collar?” asked Thayer. “We’ll all pick it out together.”

  She nodded. “Yes. Of course. Anything. As long as we’re together.” She couldn’t stop crying, but this time they were tears of joy. Everything she wanted was right here, in these two sexy, fun, gorgeous men. And she was going to spend the rest of her life proving to them how much she loved them.
